A large and stinging jellyfish species first appearing in the mid-seventies became increasingly common off the coast of Israel during the past decade. Galil et al. (1990) identified this jellyfish as a new scyphomedusan species - Rhopilema nomadica (order Rhizostomeae)- with an indopacific origin.
